Rivalry week is over, and I can honestly say I thought more of the top 7 would lose. Alabama eased memories of the “kick six” last year by beating Auburn in a shootout 55-44, which would go on to set many records for the Iron Bowl meeting. Miss State fell to Ole Miss, which adds the chaos of who now deserves the #4 ranking.
Ohio State lost their back up quarterback who set the Big 10 record for touchdowns responsible for on their way to beating Michigan 42-28. Baylor struggled against Texas Tech and TCU throttled Texas. Also, UCLA and Georgia lost their respective games, allowing for a new set of entrants into the top 10.
College Football Playoff Ranking Prediction for November 30, 2014
- Florida State
- Ohio State
- Michigan State
- Kansas State
This is where things will get interesting. Will the committee punish Ohio State for losing their quarterback? I don’t know if it really matters this week, as the committee will be able to evaluate the Buckeyes with a new QB. Also, if Ohio State is able to defeat Wisconsin, that may be enough to vault them over TCU.
In the end, I think TCU may control its destiny. Look good in victory and I think they will stay in the 4th position. I know that Baylor owns the head to head victory from earlier this year, but Baylor has not looked like a top 4 team the last few weeks.
Also, this could set up some interesting scenarios. What if two of the top three lost this coming week? For example, what if Arizona beat Oregon again? Does that mean Arizona should jump into the 4th position? What if Wisconsin beats Ohio State, where do they finish? Still many questions are out there, but one thing is certain. The season will be over next week and we will have our top four on December 7th.
