College Football Playoff Picture – Nov. 1, 2015

The CFB Playoff Rankings are released this week.  I think everyone is excited to see how the committee sees the top teams.  Here are my rankings for the top 10:

  1. Baylor
  2. Ohio State
  3. LSU
  4. Clemson
  5. TCU
  6. Michigan State
  7. Iowa
  8. Oklahoma State
  9. Alabama
  10. Notre Dame

Not much movement.  Oklahoma State’s victory over Texas Tech was enough for me to see that they belonged above Alabama.  But what about the playoff picture?  Here is how I see it shaking out.

  1. LSU
  2. TCU
  3. Clemson
  4. Michigan State
  5. Oklahoma State
  6. Stanford

I do not feel confident about these picks to be honest.  I have a weird feeling that even though TCU will be Baylor… that OK State will slip up and beat them.  Clemson scares me this week with everyone jumping in their support.  I could see Florida State pull that one off.  LSU… I really don’t know what to think there.  I think they beat Alabama, but the Ole Miss games worries me.  Then the Big 10 is just a jumbled up mess.  So I think we will 3 out of 4 new teams in two weeks.  I think College Football is about to go through an interesting couple weeks… or at least I hope so.

College Football Playoff Picture – Oct. 25, 2015

It wasn’t a huge upset weekend, but there were some games that changed the outlook of the season.  How does Saturday’s action affect my top 10?

  1. Baylor
  2. Ohio State
  3. LSU
  4. Clemson
  5. TCU
  6. Michigan State
  7. Iowa
  8. Alabama
  9. Oklahoma State
  10. Notre Dame

Baylor’s place at No. 1 is still good for this week, but Seth Russel’s health (first and foremost, hoping for a speedy recovery for him) can affect this position.  Ohio State looked solid now that J.T. Barrett is QB.  Easily the best game of the year for the Buckeyes.  I still have LSU ahead of many teams.  Brandon Harris is turning out to be a decent QB, but he will face another elite defense (Alabama) in two weeks time.  Clemson goes to 4 with the impressive victory over Miami (no effort = pathetic).  Michigan State and Alabama needed the 4th quarter to win.  Oklahoma had a large victory over a poor team, but did their job with great efficiency.  And Notre Dame’s loss to Clemson is looking better and better with every week.  My predictions for the playoff teams are:

  1. LSU
  2. TCU
  3. Michigan State
  4. Notre Dame
  5. Clemson
  6. Stanford

I think LSU wins the SEC.  TCU beats Baylor and wins Big 12.  Michigan State feels like a team of destiny and will win the Big 10. And I have, in a weird twist of fate, Notre Dame over Clemson.  I just feel like it has been a bit easy for Clemson, and there will be a trap game later this year that Clemson will fall on (maybe N.C. State?)  Stanford feels like the team that will win the PAC-12 now with Utah’s loss.

Of course… these predictions just meant that one of those teams will probably loss, and change my predictions again.  Let’s see what this next weekend brings us!

College Football Playoff Picture – Oct. 18, 2015

Well, it is still probably too early to try and predict the four teams in the playoffs of college football, but let’s do it anyways!  Here is how I see the top 10.

Top 10 for College Football

  1. Baylor
  2. Utah
  3. Ohio State
  4. LSU
  5. TCU
  6. Clemson
  7. Michigan State
  8. Florida State
  9. Iowa
  10. Alabama

Disclosure:  I think Baylor has been the most consistent team, and therefore deserving of the #1 status, but Utah is really close.  I just haven’t seen the same Ohio State team as last year, and they are not as dominant as the end of last year.  I only have 1 undefeated team in a Power 5 conference (Oklahoma State) over Alabama, but this is because it feels like OSU has flirted with being 3-3.  I believe that going undefeated is crazy tough, so teams who are there deserve more recognition.  However, many of these teams will lose sometime or another because they play each other.  So how do I see the playoff picture?  Here is my prediction for the CFB Playoff at the end of the year.

  1. Utah
  2. LSU
  3. TCU
  4. Michigan State
  5. Notre Dame
  6. Clemson

I think Ohio State will lose a big game to either Michigan State or Michigan (possibly both).  I think Baylor will lose to TCU.  LSU beats Alabama and wins SEC.  and Utah goes through Pac 12 unscathed.  I think we could possibly see 4 undefeated teams here.  Will it happen? Who knows.  But the playoff seems to have arrived in perfect timing, as it will be crazy helpful this year.

Update on all the things

Web Development:

Nodevember is around the corner. I am excited about attending the event again this year.  I have been away from web development quite a bit over the past few months just because I am focusing on getting used to the new school.  Maybe after Nodevember I will be inspired to do something in particular, but I am not putting as much pressure on myself to learn so much about web development right now.

School:

School has been rough at first.  I think things are getting better, then something happens to change that perception.  That has been kind of the way the year has gone on.  But I feel like we have made a breakthrough right before the fall break.  I am hoping that this will catapult into great things the rest of the semester.

We also just had soccer tryouts the first day of fall break.  It was a great short tryout.  I feel that we have a team that communicates with each other, and works for each other.  I am excited about how the year will go.

Destiny:

I have made mention that I play Destiny on Xbox One.  Right now I feel Destiny is in a great spot.  I have started streaming on Twitch every now and then just for fun.  I enjoy watching others play games and I figured that maybe others will enjoy watching me play as well.

College Football:

Hopefully sometime this weekend I will give my first impressions of the season up to this point and hopefully release my top 10 sometime after this weekend’s games.

I hope you enjoy me just posting about random things.  It is a great way for me to just type up things that I am currently up to that I feel like sharing.  It is enjoyable for me to just share anything I can with anyone when I have been helped by so many people throughout my life.  Thanks guys!

Blogging about my Golfing Journey

I have enjoyed golfing for the last nine years.  I end up only getting to go 3-7 times a year though, so I never focused on practicing and improving my game But I have always been able to shoot mid to high 80’s even with sporadically playing.  I have decided that I would like to start getting better in golf.

I plan on setting goals for 2016 later this year.  Right now, I just want to play a few more times to get a baseline of where I am at as far as FIR, GIR, putts, etc.  I will share that information at another date.

I would like to replace all the clubs in my bag sometime in 2016.  This isn’t really golf related more than financially related, but something I would like to do.

I would also like to play in at least one amateur stroke tournament.  I am considering joining either the Golf Channel Am Tour or the Golfweek Am Tour.  This all depends on other things of course.  I think I would enjoy competing and meeting other golfers.

If you have any suggestions or opinions on what should look at doing, let me know.

New School Year, Music City Code, Church Website, and College Football (Update)

Here we are rolling into September.  It is getting that time of year where things start settling into a groove into what the next 10 months will be for me.  Here is a look at some of the things that have happened the last month:

I have started teaching at a new school and new county this year.  I am also going from teaching 8th grade to Geometry (normally 10th graders).  I started getting back the feelings I had my first year of teaching (good and bad).  I have settled down this time much faster.  I guess we can attribute that to many things: being older, experience, wiser (hopefully), and just realizing that it will all settle down and I will be able to figure my way through it all. How will the new school/grade/year go?  We shall see.  I feel pretty good about my location and position right now.

Saturday, I attended Music City Code at Lipscomb University.  That was an awesome event to attend.  I really haven’t haven’t done much web developing in the last month for multiple reasons (kind of worn out from teaching camps all summer, wanted to settle into new school, working on some other things at home, etc.) but this event energized me.  I have some ideas as to what I want to do and where I want to go now.  I want to continue my study into JavaScript and learn how Node.js works.  It intrigues me how one language can be used on both ends of the spectrum.

I have found out that I will possibly be teaching another camp during my fall break (because I choose a profession where I have ‘weeks off,’ so I fill those weeks with more work).  We may be changing the template of the camp this time however.  I am going to make more of the material from scratch for this camp.  It is kind of exciting to do so, but also daunting.  The one thing that has me a bit worried is coming up with a design as the logo of the camp.  I don’t consider my design skills to be great, but this is still exciting nevertheless.

Another reason why I haven’t been working on my own web development learning the last month is I am now maintaining the website for the church I attend.  This is exciting as this is the first website I am working on that is not my own.  I have been learning the basics behind the website.  Thankfully, the CMS is the same that I use (WordPress), so that helped.  There are definitely things on the website that are more advanced than what I do.  I think I have a grasp of the basics.  Now I put on my thinking cap and think of ways to better promote the website not only throughout the church, but in the community.

Finally, it is college football season!  I hope to do more write ups this year about what I see as I watch the games.  I don’t plan on releasing my top 10 until a couple weeks into the season.  But I am excited to see the first weeks of the season get underway.

That is where I am at now.  Hopefully, there will be more write ups this month.  I hope to start working on the camp material first, then start working on learning node.js.  If there is anything you think I should look at and would love to hear my opinion on a matter let me know!
